At Last!

By Sanket Kambli

At Last ! yes ,that is what comes to our mind when we think of India winning its first Olympic Silver thanks to Major Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. And it is followed by another question ,as to whether its the last one. Because not everyone of us is particularly tuned into the proceedings of the Olympics and so are incognizant of any medal hope from the remnant of the Indian Contingent. Here I stress on the word remnant as almost half of our contingent members are out of the medal radar. Our medal hopes are now pinned on our Hockey team, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupati, Amritpal Singh and Anju Bobby George for long jump, Anil Kumar ,Vikas Gowda and Neelam J Singh, Harant Kaur, Seema Antil for Discus, J J Shobha and Soma Biswas for Heptathlon, Bahadur Singh for Shot Put, Relay team, Saraswati Saha for 200m, Binu Matthew for 400m, our Wrestlers like Mukesh Khatri, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sushil Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Sujeet Maan, Anuj Knmar, Palwinder Singh Cheema, and Diwakar Prasad our Boxer as other Indians failed to finish on the podium. But don't expect a shower of medals from all of these ,as P T Usha (who doesn't require any introduction) tells us to be realistic that ,even if all the aforementioned athletes have performed well in the qualifiers to deserve their position in this event doesn't mean that all will finish on the podium as their competititors who are also the favourites have consistently performed better than them. She goes on record saying that among the Athletes she thinks only Anju Bobby George and probably Bobby Aloysius has a chance of winning a medal ,lets just hope she is partially right and everyone wins a medal, and wouldn’t it have been wonderfull if all our dreams would come true. But like Morpheus said in Matrix “It isn't a matter of hope ,its a matter a time” we will soon know whether the Indian tricolor will flutter on the podium or will it be the ‘Same Old Story’. Watch this space for further updates.
